My favourite fashion seasons are always when it’s ‘in vogue’ for designers to add handcrafted details to garments. So I’m really excited about Spring-Summer 2017 if Marc Jacobs’ collection is indicative.
His runway show was a sparkling, celestial love affair with embellishments: shimmering moons appliqued onto jeans; satin starbursts in bold black and white; and swirling zephyrs that shift with the light.
Then we burst through the heavens into deep space and discover galactic moon boots that would make any girl wearing them feel like an interstellar super-heroine. Her superpower may very well be being able to walk in them! Though, perhaps when there’s no gravity, conquering skyscraper platforms is a cinch.
To bring us back down to Earth Marc Jacobs has juxtaposed the metallics and moonbeams with quaint folk art: dainty flowers scattered over colourful leather shoes and belts and a crazy-patchwork leather jacket (I’d love to try making a jacket like it in rich velvets and brocades and LOTS of embroidery).
And if we ever want to get sky-high again, we can sugar overload on sequinned licorice candy.
Thanks for a fun and inspiring collection, Mr Jacobs.
I love this blog! More like art then fashion. Keep these posts coming please.
